Entry #1
The Ad I have chosen is of a movie cleverly titled The Comebacks. The movie is created by the producers of The Wedding Crashers. The Ad strongly objectifies women. The woman is half bent over wearing a red helmet with blond hair flowing out, a red jersey pulled up a little to show her back and tight gold football pants. In this picture she has her buttocks raised in a perky way while holding a football in between her legs. Then comes the clever movie title and catch phrase. "The Comebacks, Keep your eye on the ball." This Ad targets single straight males who like football, possibly middle class middle age men or college/high school students. I think why this is the target audience is because of the woman position with the football between the legs and the text saying keep your eye on the ball. Also by how the movie is presented by the producers from the Wedding Crashers. I don't think rich middle age men would spend time to watch this spoof genre movie. Unless the male is a college or high school student.

Hi Chris,
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited to hear about your writing assignment. You have chosen to analyze something that no one in your class is looking at. A movie poster is a great idea and the one you have chosen clearly objectifies women. The important thing to remember is how does it objectify women. This can be a difficult question to answer.
What I would like for you to work on for the written assignment is the relationship between the text and the visual image. Where does the text run? (e.g. meaning where is it located) How is the text effective? How does it relate to the movie? To the visual image? How are they different?
